History of the club
Kingsley Tennis Centre was and still is the dreams and creation of the Jakeway family, who started the centre in 1987.
Disillusioned with local tennis and the lack of support for younger players back in the 1980’s, Jill Jakeway with the support from the family, set about building her own tennis centre where children could get equal court time as adult members and quality coaching throughout the year… They sold their house and moved onto site building first the two court air hall followed by the outdoor hard court.
Since that time in 1987, the centre has expanded its facilities to include 2 outdoor “green” clay courts, the first of their kind in the country at the time, and clubhouse and changing facilities for the members to sit and relax in after a tough game…
Most recently in 2006/7, the centre extended again into our new four court indoor structure and outside seating area which has allowed the club to really expand its activities and become one of the best tennis facilities in the North of Hampshire.
That isn’t the end of the family’s ambition, next step is more outdoor courts to hold more competitions/ matches and general play for the members and an extension of the club house to include a small pro shop, coach education/ games room and a treatment room for sports injuries, but that is in the near future…. when finances and opportunity allow…
